Reddit is suing artificial intelligence startup Anthropic for what it’s calling a breach of contract and for engaging in “unlawful and unfair business acts” by using the social media company’s platform and data without authority.

Reddit sued the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic on Wednesday, accusing it of stealing data from the social media discussion website to train its AI models despite publicly assuring it wouldn't.

Reddit sued Anthropic on Wednesday in San Francisco superior court, claiming that the OpenAI rival had accessed its platform more than 100,000 times since July 2024, after Anthropic allegedly said it had blocked its bots from doing so.
