(CNN) — Multiple popular online services were hit by outages on Thursday afternoon, including Spotify, Discord, Google and Amazon Web Services, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks service disruptions across the web.

The problems swept across major services and websites for an uncomfortable stretch on Thursday before recovery began kicking in.

Social media users are claiming that the massive internet outage on Wednesday, which resulted in a Cloudflare and GCP downtime, was due to a cyberattack.

Countless sites and services — stalwarts like Twitch, Gmail, Discord, Nintendo, and more — went down on Thursday afternoon, eastern time. The internet, even as large swaths of it went down, was quick to react on social media. And, in short, people were freaking out.

A handful of homeowners in Cecil County were without internet and phone service for nearly a month due to a Verizon outage caused by copper thieves.
