A judge has thrown out a felony indictment against a former Georgia prosecutor, ending her trial on charges that she abused her power to protect the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery in 2020

A judge has thrown out a felony indictment against a former Georgia prosecutor involving Ahmaud Arbery’s death.

A Georgia judge has dismissed a felony case against former Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson. She was accused of hindering the investigation into the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

Senior Judge John R. Turner on Monday ordered Johnson acquitted of a misdemeanor count of obstructing police. Turner ruled after prosecutors rested their case, declaring they failed to show “one scintilla of evidence” that Johnson had directed police investigators not to arrest the man who shot Arbery.

The trial against a former Georgia prosecutor accused of using her position to shield from immediate arrest the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery came to an abrupt end Wednesday morning. The judge overseeing the case announced from the bench that he would grant a special demurrer to dismiss the final remaining count against former Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson.

Jackie Johnson testified she removed herself from the case after learning the shooting involved the son of Greg McMichael, a former investigator for her office.
