A Republican Maine state representative has filed a lawsuit alleging the state’s House speaker and other Democrats violated her First Amendment rights and disenfranchised her constituents by censuring her last month and barring from speaking or voting on the House floor.

A Republican lawmaker in Maine is suing the state’s Democratic House speaker over her censure that followed a social media post about a transgender athlete participating in high school sports.

Two years ago, a Maine schoolboy took fifth place in a state pole vaulting competition. In February this year, the same athlete clinched the gold, but this time in the girls’ competition.
