Sunnova Energy, the struggling Houston-based residential solar company, has filed for bankruptcy, according to court and regulatory filings.

A subsidiary of the energy company filed petitions seeking relief under Chapter 11 of the United States’ bankruptcy code on June 1. Sunnova Energy International Inc. and Sunnova Intermediate Holdings, LLC filed for bankruptcy in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on Sunday.

As the bankruptcy court approves certain asset sales for Sunnova, the beleaguered solar company has plans in the works to offload other business lines.
