The Alexandria native, who has garnered millions of fans on social media, made his hosting debut on Tuesday night.
Show" correspondent Josh Johnson took his first spin in the late night series' hosting chair, wasting no time calling out President Trump on all of his efforts over the past week to distract from his administration's ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Johnson is a stand up comedian in addition to being a former writer and performer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He joined The Daily Show as a writer in 2017, racking up multiple Emmy nominations as part of the show’s writing staff.
Johnson — in his first monologue since being added to the show’s rotation of guest hosts — turned to coverage of the president’s claim that he convinced Coca-Cola to use real cane sugar in its signature drink. The company confirmed Tuesday that it will release such a version of the drink later this year.
Johnson hosted a Daily Show segment last year where he confronted Black voters with Trump’s tone-deaf comments on race—and since Trump’s taken office the second time, he’s been tapped to rip the president on air for his on-again, off-again tariffs and his embarrassing talks with African leaders.
