Tech giant Microsoft is in discussions to buy TikTok, the popular social media app known for its short videos. This revelation came from U.S. President Donald Trump, who confirmed that the company is considering a bid.

Oracle would run TikTok’s global operations while Microsoft is in talks to invest, according to NPR.

The server networks which support TikTok operate through Oracle's existing infrastructure responsibilities. The deal's success would grant Oracle access to perform direct oversight of TikTok's data processing and content control methods while the administration tackles data protection issues linked to Chinese ownership.

The Trump administration is denying it, but Trump previously said he'd like to see the software company take it over.

Under a deal being negotiated by the White House, TikTok's China-based owner ByteDance would retain a minority stake in the company.
