Traction control works in conjunction with ABS as it uses the ABS module and wheel speed sensors. Each wheel has a speed sensor that reports the wheel's speed back to the control module.
The module that controls the anti-lock brakes may fail, which could cause a loss of ABS and traction control, possibly leading to a crash.
Depending on the system's sophistication, there could be two, three, or four channels (data sensors) that communicated with the brake computer (EBCM or electronic brake control module).
That poses a serious safety risk and increases the chance of a crash, GM says. The issue is caused by a software defect in the electronic brake control module.
GM has recalled 463,995 cars and trucks in the US, including the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, due to faulty electronic brake control software.
General Motors recalls certain 2016 Chevrolet Malibu sedans over a faulty memory chip in the electronic brake control module, which could cause braking issues.
