Newark officials are lifting the curfew imposed earlier this week following violent clashes with Department of Homeland Security officers outside of Delaney Hall immigration detention facility.

The restrictions outside Delaney Hall immigration detention center were imposed after demonstrators who were protesting the conditions at the facility had clashed with the police.

A mandatory nightly curfew remains in place Monday around Delaney Hall, where tensions between protesters and law enforcement intensified over the weekend amid outrage over the treatment of detainees at New Jersey’s largest ICE facility.

The late-night scuffle happened when protesters began banging on a vehicle trying to pass through the gates of Delaney Hall.
