After leaving Edgar Winter’s band, Derringer launched his eponymous group in 1976, which toured extensively throughout the decade and released several albums.

Derringer also played on two more Edgar Winter studio LPs — 1974’s Shock Treatment hit No. 13 and went gold, and another was titled The Edgar Winter Group with Rick Derringer — and a live disc.

The Edgar Winter Group has had an effect on the music I make. If you think of our more riff-heavy stuff like Lookout Mountain, it’s a different thing, but it has the same kind of visceral impact.
