Apple Maps and Bing Maps are both joining Google by changing their Maps software and apps to now display Gulf of America on the body of water that's been known as the Gulf of Mexico since the 16th century.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum pointed out that the United States' claim to name the ocean area only applies for up to 12 nautical miles off its coastline.

Google may face a lawsuit from Mexico over its decision to show both Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of America on its Google Maps platform.
