Hawaii’s scheduled monthly test of the all-hazard, outdoor siren warning system will take place on today, Aug. 1, according to state officials.

The sound of a siren can be a life-saving alert in an emergency. For residents of Haywood County, that alert system is getting a much-needed upgrade.
