South Korea remains “the enemy” of North Korea despite recent moves by Seoul to ease tensions along the 38th parallel, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said in state media Monday.

Kim made these comments to state media while overseeing an artillery unit's firing contest. North Korean forces have been aiding Vladimir Putin's attempted invasion since at least fall 2024, fighting in Russian uniforms, though both countries have only recently admitted their involvement.

Following the Korean War and the signing of a mutual defense treaty, the U.S. military has approximately 28,500 personnel—along with associated armaments such as fighter aircraft —in South Korea to deter provocations and attacks by nuclear-armed North Korea.
