Orlando International Airport resumes 'regular operations' following hours of delays, the airport says
Flights to Orlando International Airport have returned to "regular operations," an airport spokesperson said Monday morning. The delay was due to a staffing shortage, the FAA said. Around 9 a.m., multiple flights leaving MCO were delayed.
The dramatic announcement is a stark indication of growing stress on air traffic controllers on the 30th day of the shutdown and a sign of mounting strain on U.S. aviation. Orlando is the 9th busiest airport in North America and serves millions of tourists and others annually in central Florida.
Orlando was far from the only airport experiencing delays this week. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, had average delays of about 90 minutes, according to NBC News. And Los Angeles International Airport saw delays averaging 1 hour and 40 minutes this past Sunday.
