One of the most controversial tax provisions in President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” could soon be retooled in the Senate, threatening to upend a deal reached to appease a bloc of blue-state Republicans.

Republican senators left the White House warning there's little interest in preserving the deal, which would cost votes across the Capitol.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune believes the deal that led the US House to increase the maximum deduction for state and local taxes to $40,000 will have to be changed in his chamber, according to his office.
