Seventeen state attorneys general asked Republican congressional leadership Wednesday for more information on COVID-19 origins and possible avenues to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci legally culpable at the state level.

The letter seeks information from Senate and House committees that have investigated the issue or have launched investigations. Fauci was granted a preemptive pardon, and has not been charged with any crimes.

President Biden said the pardons are not an "acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing" but rather protect individuals from "unjustified and politically motivated prosectutions."

Fauci worked in the federal government for decades before rising to prominence as the public face of the government’s response to Covid-19.
