The Erie SeaWolves have a new alternate identity, thanks to the help of HBO’s "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver." After extensive research, say hello to the Erie Moon Mammoths — a tribute to a local fossil excavation that occurred in 1991.

The Erie SeaWolves are receiving a new name -- at least for certain games later this season. The team is being rebranded as the Moon Mammoths after winning a contest held by comedian John Oliver.

The Detroit Tigers' Double-A Erie SeaWolves will be renamed the Erie Moon Mammoths after being picked by John Oliver of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.”
