The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program says mosquitoes trapped in a CT city have tested positive for West Nile virus. People over the age of 60 are at highest risk of serious illness.

The state says this marks one of the earliest detections it has seen in the last 25 years of the state-wide monitoring program.

State officials said a mosquito has tested positive for West Nile virus in Bridgeport, marking the first case of the virus this season. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, of CAES, said mosquitoes trapped in Bridgeport on June 11 tested positive through the state’s mosquito management program.
