I prefer Oia (pronounced Ia) to Thira – I believe Oia is the most beautiful village on Santorini. It’s also quieter and less touristy than Thira and provides more of a local flavor.

The village of Oia, on the rugged, windswept island of Santorini, holds a special place in many travelers’ hearts (the armchair variety included). It can be lovely and charming and out-of-time.

Plus, there are far fewer crowds. At the tip of the northern horn of Santorini is Ia (or Oia), the island’s second largest town and the Aegean’s most photographed village.

The laid-back vibe of the village is a welcome change from the more busy Oia and Fira crowds. However, Vicki reminded her followers that Santorini has many different parts to explore.
