Former Oregon Ducks cornerback Christian Gonzalez is standing up for his former head coach following the end of his second season with the New England Patriots.

After his first experience as HC in the NFL, Jerod Mayo was fired by the New England Patriots, and Christian Gonzalez spoke out about the situation. Change is on the horizon for the New England Patriots with the hiring of Mike Vrabel as the new head coach.

The Patriots traded down to No. 17 on the board and still came away with Gonzalez in the end. It was one of the biggest steals of the draft. Devon Witherspoon and Emmanuel Forbes were the other two cornerbacks drafted ahead of Gonzalez.

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez commented on how competitive things got behind the scenes at practice against rookie quarterback Drake Maye. Gonzalez admitted Maye talks “a lot more than people think” during a recent interview on Jon Gruden’s “Gruden Goes Long” podcast.

Jerod Mayo served as Bill Belichick’s successor as the head coach of the New England Patriots. Unfortunately for Mayo, that succession plan was brief, as he was fired after just one season. The former Patriots linebacker was the inside linebackers coach from 2019-2023 before being promoted to the head coaching position after Belichick and the Patriots parted ways.
