Indian officials are planning to continue negotiating with the US for a bilateral trade deal by fall of this year even if US President Donald Trump follows through with threatened tariffs this week, people familiar with the matter said.

Trade negotiations continue between India and the US but sticking points remain, especially around agriculture.

The US is going to have access to India, Trump had said. "We had no access to any of these countries. Now we are getting access because of what we are doing with the tariffs,” Trump said, adding that Indonesia is paying 19% tariffs while the US is not paying anything.
