Dillon Gabriel got his first preseason start for the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles and delivered a bit of a mixed bag.

However, following the Browns' first preseason game, Sanders’ performance has made the QB competition a lot more intriguing to follow.

Cleveland plans to give Gabriel extended reps this afternoon, and head coach Kevin Stefanski has emphasized that performance will dictate who wins the backup role.

Apparently, Stefanski will take the next couple of days to decide, but it sounds as though he will discuss the starter with the team, and that starter should be named before the final preseason game ...

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski refused during a Zoom call Aug. 17 to announce a decision on who the team's starting quarterback will be for the Sept. 7 season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The fight for the backup job provides plenty of intrigue on its own, though, and a lot of fans will be eager to see how Gabriel performs after Sanders' strong showing in the opener.
