Mosquito numbers peak every year during the summer months in Louisiana, and with more flying around, residents are at an increased risk for contracting West Nile virus. The Louisiana Department of Health announced Wednesday that the first human case of West Nile virus in 2025 was detected in Livingston Parish.

Louisiana has had its first confirmed human case of the West Nile Virus this year. We don’t know much about the patients, but we do know they are from Livingston Parish, and they are hospitalized tonight.

According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there were 57 cases in humans statewide in 2024. Three people died.
