Kansas officials reported a sharp rise in fireworks-related injuries this year, along with hundreds of violations and multiple seizures of illegal explosives.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Fireworks-related injuries were up this year over 2024 in Kansas, officials announced Thursday. Healthcare providers reported 165 fireworks-related injuries this year, according to the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office. That’s up 21 from the 144 fireworks-related injuries reported a year ago in 2024.

It’s been two weeks since Najee Harris injured his eye in a Fourth of July fireworks accident, and fans are still searching for clarity on just how serious the situation might be.

Madison police said Wednesday they are investigating after a man said his arm injury suffered Friday came either from a gunshot or fireworks. At about 1:45 a.m., officers were sent to a report of a person with an arm injury at an apartment on North Bartelt Court on the Far East Side, spokesperson officer Stephanie Fryer said in a statement.
