James Gunn isn't letting the "SuperWoke" right wing criticisms bring his "Superman" down. The writer/director, who is also the co-head of DC Studios, told Rolling Stone that the superhero film has reached success at the international box office despite rising "anti-American sentiment [s]" worldwide.

According to director James Gunn, the international box office performance for Superman 2025 has been low because he’s not as known as other superheroes in other countries like Batman is and due to “a certain amount of anti-American sentiment around the world right now.”

Superman is still flying high at the global box office, but its international numbers seem softer than expected. Despite pulling in $400 million so far, the film is underperforming outside of the U.S.
