Alijah Arenas, the Southern California basketball recruit who was involved in a fiery vehicle accident, is out of an induced coma, his family said in a statement Friday.

Alijah Arenas, a top USC recruit and Chatsworth High basketball star, awoke from his his coma after a serious Cybertruck crash early Thursday morning and “shown significant signs of progress,” according to a statement from the family shared with The Times.

Arenas, a five-star member of the 2025 recruiting class, is out of an induced coma and has opened his eyes but remains intubated
