The group of six who accidentally floated to Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River near Bend were in inner tubes tied together and included a Texas woman who had just celebrated her 40th birthday and a 33-year-old woman from Florida, authorities said Tuesday.
A group of six went over Dillon Falls on Saturday. Three were rescued and another died at the scene. Two others were missing, one of whom has now been found dead.
In 2022, Maximillian Zelaya, 41, died while floating over Dillon Falls in an inner tube. In 2018, a popular blind athlete from Bend, Nancy Stevens, and her father lost control of their canoe in the waters above Dillon Falls and went over, resulting in her father’s death.
Searchers using a variety of methods continued their recovery efforts for a fourth day Tuesday for the male still missing after Saturday’s tragedy at Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River, when six people on inner-tubes apparently went over the falls.
