BRIDGEPORT — The first group of mosquitoes have tested positive for the West Nile virus this season in Connecticut, state officials said. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, or CAES, said the samples of mosquitoes caught in a trap tested positive for WNV two weeks ago, on June 11.

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program says mosquitoes trapped in a CT city have tested positive for West Nile virus. People over the age of 60 are at highest risk of serious illness.

State officials said a mosquito has tested positive for West Nile virus in Bridgeport, marking the first case of the virus this season. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, of CAES, said mosquitoes trapped in Bridgeport on June 11 tested positive through the state’s mosquito management program.
