Some historians suggest Gulbadin Hekmatyar who was the blue eyed boy of Pakistani intelligence was the killer of Dr Abdullah Azzam. According to Thomas Hegghamer in his biography of Abdullah Azzam, he claims that during his last days Abdullah Azzam was getting closer to Ahmad Shah massoud and this made Hekmatyar insecure. He further adds that the blast that killed Azzam seemed like the work of Pakistani intelligence.
