SAME DAY PEDIATRICIAN / URGENT CARE ➡️ Mild subcostal retractions only ➡️Normal color, feeding okay ➡️ Respiratory rate appropriate for age ➡️ No nasal flaring or head bobbing ➡️ Baby settles when calm/asleep When retractions = ER now ➡️ Moderate to severe retractions ➡️ Multiple retraction sites (subcostal intercostal suprasternal) ➡️ Fast breathing that doesn’t improve when calm ➡️ Poor feeding

Other signs of respiratory distress include breathing very fast, turning blue, or flaring out the nostrils to breathe. This sweet baby girl was diagnosed with RSV and spent 10 days in the hospital on oxygen. Parental permission to share was granted (as always).
