หลอดลมโป่งพองในผู้หญิงไทย…พบได้บ่อยกว่าที่คิด ภาพจากการส่องกล้องหลอดลมของผู้ป่วยหญิงอายุ 90 ปีมาด้วย หลอดลมโป่งพอง (bronchiectasis) ที่ดำเนินโรคมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆโดยไม่สามารถระบุสาเหตุจากการตรวจเสมหะได้ชัดเจน จากการส่องกล้องพบ มีเสมหะลักษณะ ข้น เหนียว หนืด สีเหลืองเขียว (thick, sticky, purulent mucoid impaction) อุดตันอยู่ภายในหลอดลมจำนวนมาก ในเวชปฏิบัติของผม ผู้ป่วยส่วนใหญ่เป็น ผู้หญิงสูงอายุมีอาการไอเรื้อรัง มีเสมหะหนองเรื้อรังมานานหลาสิบปีได้รับยาปฏิชีวนะซ้ำ ๆ หลายครั้ง ภาพถ่ายรังสีทรวงอกหรือ CT
